B.A.S.S. HISTORY AND INFORMATION:

The Dr. Art Davis Fan Club was formed in 1990 by university students and fans of Dr. Art Davis as a tribute for his unselfish mentoring, counseling and motivation. They scraped together dollars and on his December 5, 1990 birthday gave him a surprise birthday party and presented him with money to award a scholarship in his name. Since they considered Dr. Art a "Renaissance Man", they said the scholarships should be awarded to full time accredited university or college students in any discipline. Other requisites followed such as a high GPA (grade point average), currently 3.25. Applicants must do community service and be adept in other areas as well (see the Scholarship Application for details). Funds were secured by monthly raffles and bake sales. The rest of the money was provided by the Davis family.

Hoping to secure donors, Dr. Davis formed a tax exempt organization called B.A.S.S. (Better Advantages for Students and Society) in 1993. This 501 ( c) 3 organization would enable donors to deduct their donations. Dr. Davis’ wife Gladys died in November 1995, and he immediately formed the GLADYS DAVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSIHPS in her honor, as she mentored many persons in the health care professions. These (Gladys Davis) scholarships are only open to health care majors attending a full time university, college or accredited professional school. The number of scholarships awarded is dependent on the money collected.

Scholarships are cash stipends and they are awarded during the annual banquet. This banquet is held at a first class restaurant. We feature headline musicians, as well as spotlighting musicians from the Dr. Art Davis Fan Club. Admission to all is usually $50.00 per person.

Memberships:

The first tier of memberships to B.A.S.S. begins at $50.00, which includes perks such as free tickets to concerts. These perks increase as different levels of memberships increase. The next level is $100.00, with several discounts added. For example, a mini concert by the Dr. Art Davis groups will be performed to any member donating $4000.00 or Dr. Davis, an accomplished gourmet chef, will prepare a gourmet meal for a small party. We can place a donor’s name or company logo on our web site for $1000.00 or more for a year. Contact us for other offers.

THE DR. ART DAVIS SCHOLARSHIPS AND GLADYS DAVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

The former is open to applicants attending a full time accredited university or college in any discipline. GPA caries.
