HISTORY

B.A.S.S. originally began as the Dr. Art Davis Fan Club. The club was formed in 1990 by university students and fans of Dr. Art Davis as a tribute for his unselfish mentoring, counseling and motivation. They scraped together dollars and on his December 5, 1990 birthday gave him a surprise birthday party and presented him with money to award a scholarship in his name. Since they considered Dr. Art a "Renaissance Man", they said the scholarships should be awarded to students in any discipline.

Hoping to secure donors, Dr. Davis formed a tax exempt organization called B.A.S.S. (Better Advantages for Students and Society) in 1993. This 501 (c) 3 organization would enable donors to deduct their donations. Dr. Davis’ wife Gladys died in November 1995, and he immediately formed the GLADYS DAVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS in her honor, as she mentored many persons in the health care professions. .
